The girls are 32 weeks old today! Happy Birthday! This week will be full of new tests and exams as the girls continue to grow and mature.
Hazel is no longer using a nasal cannula. She is on room air only. She looks more comfortable without the nose prongs in or out of her nose and tape all over her face. Tomorrow she will receive a larger ratio of formula and milk. Her weight should start to pick up soon.
Cora is still doing well on the Human Milk Fortifiers (HMF). She is still on room air and doing well. Nothing else has changed. She continues to gain weight and look adorable while she is sleeping.
Tonight the girls had their first experience with kangaroo care (holding each girl on your chest for bare skin to skin contact). Kangaroo care helps the girls gain weight, maintain a steady breathing pattern and body temperature, bond with the parents, and it can help prevent apnea and bradys. Hazel went first, then both girls were held together and Cora was last. Cora stared at Hazel then sneezed in her face. Hazel thought it was funny and started giggling. Both girls were at home together. They even held hands. Both girls also practiced nuzzling. This prepares the girls for breast feeding.
Well hello sweet little ones! This is your Auntie Amy! You look so precious and peaceful holding hands. I think you have started your lifetime sisterhood bond already. Trust me, there is nothing more special than that. Just ask your Mommy and me! :)
