The Fairy and the Mermaid

It has been another busy day for the girls. Hazel is still on the c-pap. She is at 21% oxygen (what we breathe) and 4 saturation. This is the lowest setting on the c-pap (which is a good thing). She is strengthening those lungs, getting ready for a nasal cannula (least invasive tube, with nose prongs). We were able to hold her for the first time tonight. She did not like being moved from her cozy bed at first. Once she was comfortable, she opened her eyes and looked around. She is so tiny and light. It barely feels like you are holding anything at all.

Cora is breathing room air! She no longer has any assistance breathing. She may go back on a low flow nasal cannula from time to time to give her a rest. The results of her cranial ultrasound came back. She does have two small blood clots on her brain. We are hoping they will heal themselves, like her PDA. This is completely normal for a preemie her age. The nurses say they see this all the time. They said not to worry, the majority of the time they go away on their own. Both girls were sleeping peacefully and having sweet dreams when we left.
