The belly saga continues. Cora is now back to straight breast milk. She is receiving 39 ml every three hours. This is a lot of food for a preemie. Her feeding is put into a syringe that distributes the milk over a 90 minute period. The hope is this will prevent her from spitting and choking. After we left last night, she choked two more times and one time this evening. They believe the formula is too rich for her. We are meeting with the nutritionist tomorrow. There is a possibility Cora is lactose intolerant. Putting her on a lactose free formula is the next step. Another urine culture was taken today. She did not appreciate the procedure. It took two tries because Cora urinated all over her nurse the first time. The second time she missed her nurse, instead getting the bed and her clothes wet. She also matured to the big girl weighing machine today. We will now receive more accurate weight measurements. Her total weight is 3 lbs. 14.2 oz. She is almost big enough to get a crib.
Hazel continues to impress with her feedings. Today she drank 4 ml from a bottle! This is equivalent to about 1/2 teaspoon. The full amount, 28 ml, is put in a bottle. What she does not consume is placed in her feeding tube. We will try to feed her from a bottle at least twice a day. After she tried the bottle, she was fussy. Holding her while she was eating calmed her down and put her back to sleep. She loves to be held. Her total weight is 3 lbs. 8 oz. She is exactly 6 grams away from being able to wear clothes. We weighed her at least 10 times in order to try to get the weight we wanted. She was not ready or she was teasing us. Like everything, it is on her schedule. She dictates to us. Hazel should be able to wear her first outfit by tomorrow afternoon.
