The Fairy and the Mermaid

Time marches on and so does the girls' progress. Vicki and Janette were the two nurses today.

Hazel had her caffeine levels checked since her weight is growing so well. Caffeine is given to them to help stimulate their brain to remember to breathe. This reduces bradys, the cessation of breath which causes the heart to slow dramatically. So, since she is now up to 3lbs. 7oz., they are reevaluating her dosage. Truth be told, neither girl gets them much anymore, Hazel only having two in the last 24 hours, both of which were so quick that the monitor didn't even register them. The nurse just happened to see them as she walked by.

It was nuzzle and kangaroo time again for Hazel today. She started out nuzzling and latched a couple times but once it was in mouth she just looked around expectantly like she was waiting for something to happen. She's got the general idea down and will learn the rest in time. Once that became frustrating for her, Mama just did kangaroo care with her. She always enjoys mama, cuddle time.

One would never know Cora was sick recently. She looks and acts as healthy as ever, her weight now at 3lbs., 14oz. Only two ounces away from four pounds! Today was the end of her antibiotic treatment. They will let 48 hrs pass before taking another urine culture to test, just to be sure they got the UTI knocked out. Cora's pooping had stalled a little bit in the past few days. They've moved her to straight breast milk, without the added milk fortifiers. She appears to be digesting this much easier. Pooping much more frequently now, her belly is shrinking considerably from it's earlier, bloated look. Cora will begin to get back into the nuzzling and kangaroo game soon since she is recovering so well from the urinary infection.
