The Fairy and the Mermaid

Cora drank from a bottle today! She took 10 ml, which is equivalent to 1 1/4 teaspoons of milk. This is a lot of milk for her to swallow. The girls are still trying to learn how to breathe, suck, and swallow at the same time. Sometimes they will get milk in their mouth and let it stay there. Once they get it, they are not sure what to do with it. We will try to feed them both from a bottle every time they are awake and active. Once a preemie starts eating regularly from a bottle, their progress skyrockets. Cora's belly is healing. Formula is no longer an option. The Human Milk Fortifiers [(HMF)extra nutrients, minerals, and vitamins in powder form added to the milk] Cora was on before her septic illyus were added back to her milk today. She has done great with them. We are hoping this trend will continue. Cora's final weight of the day is 3 lbs. 15 oz. She is one ounce away from her weight goal and getting a crib!

Hazel was very sleepy today. She must be growing. Her weight today is 3 lbs. 9 oz. She is going to catch up with Cora quickly. She is also wearing clothes! By 2:00 this afternoon, she was wearing her third outfit of the day. Hazel looked like a big girl. When she tried eating from a bottle today, she took 7 ml of milk. This is almost 1 teaspoon of milk. We are most impressed with this. Her mouth is so tiny the bottle barely fits. To swallow that much milk is quite a feat.
