Cora is in a big girl bed! This morning around 6:00, Cora made a smelly mess in her bed. Her nurse, Debbie, decided to change her to a crib a little early. Today's weight is 4 lbs. 5 oz. This shows us she is not burning calories trying to maintain her temperature in the crib. She did not show a lot of interest in bottle feeding today. As soon as we took away her bottle and set up her tube feed, she would start to suck on her pacifier like crazy. Trying to suck, swallow, and breathe at the same time is still a little confusing. It will not take long and she will get it. Once she has eaten all her feedings in a 24 hours period from a bottle, her feeding tube will be removed. It is common for preemie to do great one day with a bottle, then not show any interest for a while. We are letting her bottle feed at her own pace.
Hazel finished her first bottle! Until this morning, the girls would only drink a partial amount of their food from a bottle. Hazel has set a new record. She finished all 30 ml (1 oz.) of her milk! This requires a lot of energy. Her next feedings through out the day were partial feedings. Today's weight is 3 lbs. 12 oz. She lost 2 oz. This could be from the stress of the eye exam, the machine, or from burning calories while eating. We will see what her weight is tomorrow before we begin to worry. The only thing holding her back from a crib is her size. She has been able to maintain her temperature for over a week. Once she is the right weight, we are hoping this weekend, she will get a big girl bed too!
