The Fairy and the Mermaid

Both girls have become eating experts. Hazel was put on ad-lib feedings this morning. She has done great all day. Her total feeding volume for the day is higher than what she was eating when she was being feed every three hours. It ranges from 50-60 ml per feeding. She is still having bradys with her meals. It is always right at the beginning of a feeding. She gets so excited, she gulps everything down instead of taking her time. Her nurse, Rose, says one day Hazel will just get it, the light will turn on. Then she will not have any more bradys. We are waiting for that day. She gained a considerable amount of weight, now weighing, 4 lbs. 7 oz.

Cora is also doing great on ad-lib feedings. She is eating 65-70 ml of milk every four hours with snacks of 10-30 ml in between. Another cranial ultrasound is scheduled for tomorrow. It is just a follow up to monitor her brain hemorrhage from when she was born. She is so close to beginning the count down towards coming home. Most of her goals have been met. Today she looked and acted like a newborn baby instead of a preemie. She cried, looked around, and put everything she could reach in her mouth, including Hazel's forehead. Her weight stayed about the same. She only gained grams, still weighing 4 lbs. 13 oz.
