Today was the dreaded eye exam day for both girls. Dr. Spencer (the surgeon) came to see Hazel in the NICU this evening while Mama took Cora to Dr. McWilliams earlier in the afternoon. Cora showed slight improvement in her eyes and since her exam looked so good, she doesn't have to go back for another two weeks, as opposed to the weekly schedule we have been maintaining so far. Hazel also had a good report. Her eyes improved from a stage 3 to a stage 2 and showed clear progress in healing. Like sister, Hazel doesn't have to have another eye exam for two weeks also. As always, it is never a good experience for them, despite the exciting results.
Hazel had one small brady today following her exam. It was expected by Mama and Papa, as she always seems to have one an hour or so afterward. Otherwise, the new formula seems to be helping with the reflux and the bradys have not been occurring during her feedings so far. This is encouraging and hopefully bodes well for a trip home in the near future. We will have to wait and see.
In addition to a field trip to the eye doctor, Cora enjoyed another day with Mama. They had story time, swing time and lots of Bobby pillow time. She was fussy following her exam, as is always the case. The eyes stay dilated for 24-48 hrs following, especially for blue eyes, so light hurts Cora's eyes more than normal and she always tends to get a little ornery resultant.
