The specialist came to see Hazel today. Before surgery is considered, he took her off Gaviscon and put her on Prilosec. She will take it once every 8 hours. We will know in a couple of days if this works. She had a brief brady this morning during a feeding. She has not had any since. All the barium is finally out of her system. It was upsetting her stomach yesterday. Her eyes look great. You cannot tell she had surgery a little over a week ago. All the puffiness and redness is gone. With the exception of her reflux, Hazel is acting like herself again. She also reached another milestone today. She now weighs 5 lbs. 0.6 oz.
Cora is also having belly issues. We added her formula back to her milk for one feeding today. We only used half the normal dosage. That was a mistake. It is now apparent her belly issues were from the formula. We will not try that again. Formula is very bad for Cora. She has been fussy (putting it mildly), gassy, and had an upset stomach since that one feeding. We feel it should be out of her system by morning. It is going to be a long night for everyone. Monday morning we will meet with her doctor. We are going to ask him to add the Human Milk Fortifiers (HMF) back into Cora's milk. This is the only thing that did not upset her belly when she was in the NICU. They normally do not prescribe it at discharge because of the expense for the parents. At this point we are willing to try anything to make her feel better. She looks pretty pitiful.
