The Fairy and the Mermaid

Hazel's condition has not improved too much from yesterday. In fact, it may have worsened slightly. They had removed her nasal cannula at one point but have had to replace it. She is getting a lot of drainage from her eyes that is flowing down into her sinus cavity. This is making her congested and really hampering her breathing, resulting in more frequent bradys. In addition, the eye surgeon was called in to look her over and possibly see why her eyes have swollen so much. It is believed she is reacting to the type of eye drops they're using, but that can't be verified until the alternative drops are given chance to take effect. The doctors and nurses believe she looks and acts sick clinically, and therefore for precautionary reasons, they've done a battery of blood work, urine cultures and even x-rayed her to be sure they're not missing the onset of an infection. At present, all labwork indicates no infection present but again, they're taking proactive measures to be sure they find it before it may be able to take hold. Mama and Pap both got to see her shortly today and Hazel rewarded them each with a wide and happy smile, albeit brief. We will have to wait and see what the lab work states regarding any possible infection or sickness.

Cora had her first pediatrician's visit today. Dr. Young said she was a good looking girl and was doing extremely well considering what she had endured so far in the NICU (some of which mama and papa had forgotten about themselves). Mama and Papa liked him too and they can't wait to get Sissy out of the hospital for her first visit with him. Otherwise, today Cora had some tummy time, some Granny visit time and some bath time. Granny says she thinks she heard Cora say her first word as 'Yee-haw' to her but that claim has yet to be substantiated.
